Starting sucks. Go start.

I have had my site up for the better part of a month three freaking months, with every intention in the world of writing on a regular basis. I haven’t. Well, when I was writing this I still had not. It led me to think about starting in general. I have started to learn how to code at least half a dozen times (I’m finally sticking with it, but it still took a couple years!). I have started a few business, but have started starting at least ten more. Learning Spanish – I don’t think I can even begin to count.

Every person made a series of different choices to end up here, enjoying the sunset.

Every person made a series of different choices to end up here, enjoying the sunset.

I guess where I am going with this is, starting is tough.

Starting is all on you. You are a free person. There is no other person who you can blame for not starting something you want to – unless you live somewhere really crappy like North Korea, then you might get a pass. But unless you are living somewhere that the State decides your day-to-day life, there is no excuse.

Let me tell you why it is so important to start: today, there are an infinite number of people who are dependant on you for their quality of life. “Sorry what?” you might think. Just wait and hear me out  There is tomorrow you, next week you, 9 years from now you, 5 minutes from death you and an infinite other variations of you between today and your last breath. Every single one of them has their quality of life, their skillset, their relationships and everything they hold dear to relying on you today. And the crazy thing? Their futures change depending on your decisions today! “Heart-attack at 46 you” wishes you had followed through on your decision to learn how to be a better cook today. In an entirely different future, there is a “healthy as an ox and super active in bed version of you at 79” who is thankful that you decided to join that yoga studio after all. There’s even “so rich you own an island you” who is thankful you decided to learn spanish so they can enjoy meeting the locals.

there are an infinite number of people who are dependant on you for their quality of life.

The point is, there are thousands of very real people whose entire existence is dependant on the decisions you make today.

They rely on you starting.

That may seem like a massive burden, but don’t forget; once you start, it get’s easier. Momentum builds. Remembering that once you eventually start, you’ll wish you had started sooner adds a lot of stress. Instead, just remember; there are thousands of people relying on you starting now. Don’t you dare fucking let them down.
